Salto
Salto is one of the nineteen departments that make up the Eastern Republic of Uruguay. Its capital is the city of the same name Salto. It is located in the northern center of the country, bounded on the north by Artigas, on the east by Rivera and Tacuarembó, on the south by Paysandú and on the west by the Uruguay River that separates it from the Argentine Republic. With 14 163 km² it is the second most extensive department -behind Tacuarembó- and with 124 878 inhabitants in 2011, the fourth most populated, behind Montevideo, Canelones and Maldonado.
