Gbarpolu
Created in 2001, Gbarpolu is the youngest county of the 15 that form Liberia. It is located in the northwest of Liberia, occupying an approximate area of 9,689 km², and an estimated population of 83,388 inhabitants before the war. Gbarpolu County borders Lofa County to the north, Bomi County to the south, Bong County to the east, and Grand Cape Mount and Sierra Leone to the west. There are five districts in Gbarpolu: Bopolu Bokomu Belleh Gbarma KongbaThe majority of Gbarpolu is occupied by forest. Mining was the main economic activity before the Civil War, in addition to subsistence livestock. However, the war has devastated all sectors of the country.
