The district of Takamaka is located on the island of Mahé, Seychelles. It is one of the twenty-five administrative districts of the Republic of Seychelles. It is located in the southern part of the island. The estimated population is approximately 3,100 inhabitants. The economic activity is grouped around agriculture and traditional local fishing. The servivios sector is closely related to tourism, with four small hotels. The largest hotel is the Bayan Tree Resort, in Anse Intendance. Most of the population is employed in commerce and tourism. As in the rest of the districts, there is a primary school, a health center, a police station and an administration office, all of them grouped around the local Catholic church of Santa María Magdalena.
Talamaka is located about 50 minutes by bus from the capital, the city of Victoria. The regular public bus service operates daily between 05.30 and 20.00. Its climate, like that of the whole island where this district is located, is warm and rainy with exuberant vegetation.
