Saint-Louis is a region of Senegal on the border with Mauritania. Its capital is Saint-Louis. The population of the region is 571,885 inhabitants, and its area of 19,044 km². It is divided into 3 departments: Dagana, Podor and Saint-Louis. Its Governor is Ass Sougoufara. It is famous for its capital, the city of Saint Louis, the second most important in Senegal. The island of Saint Louis is declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco, for its colonial architecture. And it is that Saint Louis was the capital of the French colonies in West Africa. The city is accessed by a long iron bridge, built by the French in the nineteenth century and designed by Eiffel.
Near the city are the Djoudj Bird National Park and the Langue de Barberi Park.
