Funafuti
Funafuti is an atoll that forms the capital of Tuvalu, and at the same time it is the economic center of the country. It has a population of 6194 inhabitants, making it the most populated atoll in the country. It is a narrow strip of land that measures between 20 and 400 meters wide, surrounding a large lagoon 18 kilometers long and 14 wide. With an area of 275 km², it is the largest lagoon in Tuvalu. The surface of the 33 islets is 2.4 km, less than 1% of the total area of the atoll. Copra and other tropical fruits are exported from Funafuti. The atoll has no natural resources, so the inhabitants of the area depend on subsistence agriculture and fishing.
