Isabel
Isabel is one of the provinces of the Solomon Islands. It has a population of approximately 30,000 inhabitants. The capital is Buala, located on the Island of Santa Isabel. Santa Isabel is the largest island in the Solomon Islands. The first European contact with this island was made by the Spanish Álvaro de Mendaña de Neira in 1568. The highest point is Mount Kubonitu. The Marutho river runs from this mountain to the ocean in Hofi. The vast majority of rivers and streams are born at this point except those on the other side of the island, Katova. The province of Isabel is long but sparsely populated. The latest estimate for 2004 places it at 30,000 inhabitants.
