Western Australia It is one of the six states that, together with the two continental territories and the six insular ones, make up the Commonwealth of Australia. Its capital and most populated city is Perth. It is located in the west of the country: to the east, it borders the Northern Territory and South Australia and, in the other directions, the Indian Ocean - specifically, to the northeast with the Timor Sea and to the southeast, with the Great Australian Bay. With 2 525 500 km², it is the largest state or territory in the country, and with 2 410 600 inhabitants in 2012, the fourth most populated, after New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland. It covers the western third of the country-continent.
It is so extensive that, if it were an independent state, it would be the tenth largest country in the world. It borders South Australia and the Northern Territory. Two thirds of the state's total lives in its capital Perth. From the economic point of view, it is a mining state with some wine areas.
