More information about Tlalchapa

The municipality of Tlalchapa is part of the Tierra Caliente region in the northeast of Guerrero. As for the municipalities and states with which it borders, to the north it borders the State of Mexico and the municipality of Cutzamala de Pinzón, to the south with Tlapehuala, to the east with Arcelia and the State of Mexico and to the west with Cutzamala de Pinzón and Pungarabato. The municipal seat, which has the same name, is located 322 km from the state capital. The territorial surface that Tlalchapa has is 414.3 km2, which is equivalent to 0.65% of the territory of Guerrero and represents 4.27% of the regional surface.

The name Tlalchapa has Nahuatl origin and comes from the words Tlalchi 'ball game' and apan 'river', so its meaning in Spanish can be understood as 'river of the ball game', "ball game on water" or "River of sandy soil". In the book Hot Earth Chronicles of Eng. Alfredo Mundo Fernández, 2014, it is said that the name of Tlalchapa does not appear in ancient documents as the people around him and that were founded by the Mezcala shortly after the fourth century of Our Era , according to the INAH published in 2003. He says that this group of Mezcala are the ones who founded a rocky and enigmatic city in the so-called Cerro de los Monos east of Tlalchapa, beyond Villa Madero, and it is very possible that these they have retired leaving that place between 1523 and 1530 when the first Spaniards arrived in Tierra Caliente.

This group, as they pass through the small river on their trek to the West, found a small town that they later call Tlachtliapan, which means "Tlachtli on water" where Tlachtli was the ball game they practiced near that stream of water. In offices of ends of century XVI Tlalchapa appears belonging to Cutzamala and it continues being it in the following centuries until in 1851 it is separated to form its municipality. As soon as Hidalgo gave the Cry of Independence, continues Chronicles of Tierra Caliente, Tlalchapa meets a group of young indigenous people eager to get rid of the yoke of slavery and one of them speaks very enthusiastically and proposes to attack the Spanishized people of the Hot Land. That young native was Juan Cruz who later became very important in that war and even beyond, appearing as Colonel Juan Cruz in many offices of the Ministry of National Defense.

The people "Spanishized" and hated by the Indians was Cutzamala, who had a church similar to those of Toledo and large houses like the Spanish province, where there was also a strong Spanish detachment under the command of the young Juan José Codallos, Captain of the Land of Mexico. The Tlalchapenses arrive in Cutzamala in the morning and defeat the Spaniards, to later try to overthrow the church that they did not manage to be stone, but they burned the houses sowing terror, adds the aforementioned work appealing to the Parish Directory of 1881. Tlalchapa It has a large participation in the War of Independence, continues Crónicas de Tierra Caliente, citing several passages and battles, as when the Junta de Zitácuaro flees in January 1812 due to the attack of Calleja and takes refuge in Tlalchapa with Ignacio López Rayón, José María Liceaga and José Sixto Verduzco, to later settle in Sultepec.

It deals with the stays in Tlalchapa de Morelos, Vicente Guerrero, Nicolás Bravo and others, as well as the issuance of documents there by the Congress when it was fleeing. In the War of Reform, continues saying Hot Earth Chronicles, Tlalchapa participates also, in such a way that the 31 of December of 1860 is attacked by the conservative Ponciano Castro that kills the prefect Mariano Rodriguez and the Colonel Felipe Pinzón. Tlalchapa was the third head of the Mina District after Ajuchitlán and Cutzamala, but it did not lose its status despite the fact that Coyuca wanted to take it away and the change was made until the year of 1880. In the Mexican Revolution it also participates and narrates the battles in Chronicles of Hot Earth, being from there the legendary Nabor Mendoza The Coyote.

Of Tlalchapa was the professor Victoriano Agüeros who lived in Mexico City, a great printer who was also an opponent of the dictatorship being imprisoned in the prison of Lecumberri for more than a year, by order of Porfirio Diaz. The history of Tlalchapa goes back to the creation of the State of Mexico and the first constitution. Because the first municipalities that made up the state of Guerrero were very large, they were divided into smaller entities. This happened also with Cutzamala de Pinzón, from where territory was taken to found the municipality of Tlalchapa. The formal creation of Tlalchapa was stipulated in decree 46 of October 20, 1851, when it was decided that the villages El Potrero, currently called Villa Madero, Tecomatlán, Cuauhlotitlán and the same Tlalchapa that were part of Cutzamala would become the head of that municipality.
