Belén de los Andaquíes is a municipality located in the Department of Caquetá in southern Colombia. It is located in the Andean-Amazonian Transition Zone. In this municipality the Eastern Cordillera of the Colombian Andes is born, when detached from the Colombian Massif. Among its landscapes are the mountain, piedmont, lomerio and valleys. The indigenous Andakíes occupied the territory, being located in the average mountainous area of ​​the municipality.

They were in transition from nomadism to sedentary lifestyle. Its activities were agriculture, hunting and fishing. In the same way, they were dispersed in small clans throughout the territory. With the extraction of the Canelo de los Andaquies, the quina and the rubber, in the middle of the XVIII century, its population was decimated, currently in part of these territories we find the ethnic groups of the Embera Katios, in the indigenous reserve La Cerinda, Los Naza in the indigenous reserve La Esperanza, and the Misak organized in the Aguila town hall. Initially the territory was located to the south west of the department until the limit with the Putumayo and they formed the municipality of Curillo, San José del Fragua, Albania.

The last century were disaggregated, a fact that changes not only its limits and population figures, but also its social and economic dynamics.40 hectares of forest were cleared to locate the municipal seat. The chapel and the convent were installed, the streets were drawn and divided into lots, developing the first urban constructions. Towards 1920 the municipality counted on 1000 colonists who were mobilized by the trail that leads towards Acevedo and that still is the route of penetration by the high zone of the municipality. To protect national sovereignty, during the Colombian-Peruvian conflict, the State was forced to move troops to the municipality, which is why many of the combatants, upon finishing the confrontations, decided to stay. Towards century XX and like effect of the political violence a new colonizing process occurs.

The new settlers came from the rural area of ​​the Andean region and came to the municipality without means of subsistence, so they managed to survive with the work force provided to the existing settlers. Through INCORA, programs were advanced so that landless people could migrate to Caquetá, where they would be given plots and subsidized inputs while they began production.
