Sacapulas is a municipality in the department of Quiché, in the Republic of Guatemala. After the return of the conservatives to power in 1840, the regular orders returned to Guatemala, but they did not recover their former properties, and after the triumph of the Liberal Reformation in 1871, the regular clergy was again expelled from the country.

The EGP carried out several acts of violence that affected the infrastructure and services in Sacapulas as part of its global objective of causing total lack of control and the pre-insurrection in the country in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
