Chilpancingo de los Bravo, known simply as Chilpancingo, is a Mexican city, capital of the state of Guerrero, the second largest of the same and head of the homonymous municipality. It is located in the Central region of the state and in the southwest of Mexico. It is located 275 km from the capital of the country, Mexico City. It was not until 1871, when the local legislature agreed to change the seat of the capital, from Tixtla to Chilpancingo, and in 1872 it became the definitive capital.
The city has 187,251 inhabitants according to the 2010 count of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, representing 77 percent of the municipal population, as well as being the seventy-sixth most populated city in the country. It is located only 275 km from Mexico City and is located at an altitude of 1,253 meters above sea level.
