Montemorelos is a small Mexican city head of the homonymous municipality, in the state of Nuevo León. It is located at 342 meters above sea level, on the left bank of the Pilón River, 82 km southeast of Monterrey. In 2005, the population was 53,854 inhabitants. The city is known for being an important citrus center. Within the campus is the also recognized Medical Center, popularly known as Hospital "La Carlota", name derived from an old hacienda very famous in the region. It is difficult to determine which ethnic groups inhabited the Pilón Valley before the arrival of the Spaniards. Like all of northern Mexico, called chichimecas in general, they were nomadic and did not usually have large settlements.
The ecclesiastical archives between 1700 and 1750 speak of: Tlaxcaltecas, pelones, indios, pames, mulatos, otomíes, cadimas, turkeys, nazas, coyotes, wolves, erased, striped, and more.
