Argentona is a municipality in the province of Barcelona,Catalonia, Spain. It has 12 133 inhabitants according to official figures of the INE of the year 2017. Formerly it was an important center of summer. It is very close to the city of Mataró and about 30 kilometers from Barcelona. The urban nucleus is in the right margin of the "Riera de Argentona", an intermittent watercourse. The houses are grouped around an elevation in which a church was erected. Other population centers are San Miquel del Cros, about three kilometers "riera" below, and the urbanizations of "Les Ginesteres","Can Cabot","Can Raimí" and "Sant Pere de Clarà", on the mountains that are raised on both sides of the "laugh".
In the town there is the Museum of Botijo de Argentona, of municipal ownership, dedicated especially to pottery and traditional water pottery. The majority of exhibits are pitchers and jugs, from the Bronze Age to four copies of Pablo Picasso. Another peculiarity of the town are the more than 200 sources that it has in the municipality, some of which flow water with small amounts of carbon dioxide. Until the 1970s, water from one of the sources was bottled for commercialization. Particularly well-known is the "Font Picant" and the "Font de Ferro", whose name comes from the great iron concentration of its waters. Over time, the water was no longer marketed and there were fewer and fewer farmers in Argentona to maintain the sources, and many fell into abandonment.
Since the 1980s a group of villagers,"El grup de fonts d'Argentona", has been dedicated to restoring and reconstructing ancient sources as well as creating new ones. Argentona has a Gothic church from the 16th century dedicated to San Julián de Antinoopolis with a small chapel of the Santísimo designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch during modernism. In the urban nucleus there is also a small chapel dedicated to San Sebastián.
